J. Robert Oppenheimer has been called "the father of the atomic bomb" because he was the scientific coordinator of the Manhattan Project. But he wasn't much of a father to his son and daughter. He didn't abuse them, but he subjected them to emotional neglect to such an extent that his daughter committed suicide. There's an article which describes what happened....

I've read the book the information is drawn from. The article doesn't mention that their mother was an alcoholic who didn't enjoy childrens' company, or that in later life the son always concealed the fact that Robert Oppenheimer was his father.

Alice Miller never provided biographical sketches of notable people who had unhappy childhoods subsequent to WWII.... even though such accounts are available in abundance on the Internet. The childhood abuse of entertainment industry celebs is particularly widely covered.
