In an earlier post I drew a distinction between the Republic of the Congo, which passed a law against corporal punishment by parents, and D.R. Congo, which is a conflict zone. Now for another relevant piece of news....

The International Criminal Court (ICC) was set up in 2002. Since then, it has issued many arrest warrants against warlords and ex-dictators. On Tuesday the ICC achieved its first conviction for a crime against children. Thomas Lubanga Dyilo, a former D.R. Congo warlord, was sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment for his involvement in child soldier recruitment.
