The Journal of the History of Childhood and Youth is published by Johns Hopkins University Press. An individual subscription - print or electronic access - costs $35, or $30 for students. On the Editorial Board is Paula Fass, who is the Margaret Byrne Professor of History at the University of California at Berkeley. She is also the chief editor of the 3 volume Encyclopedia of Children and Childhood (1500 pages, $521).

A conceptual overview of the Encyclopedia (compiled by another source) breaks it down into 20 topic areas:

1. History and Theories of Childhood
2. Childhood in Global Perspective
3. Children in History
4. Parenting and Family Relations
5. Education and Schooling
6. Play, Music, and Entertainment
7. Material Culture and Children's Spaces
8. Race and Gender
9. Psychology
10. Child Advocacy, Protection, and Politics
11. Law and Institutions
12. Economics and Work
13. Industrialization and Urbanization
14. Religion, Rituals, and Celebrations
15. Children's Literature
16. Representations of Children and Childhood
17. Adolescence and Transitions to Adulthood
18. Health, Medicine, and Disease
19. Body and Sexuality
20. Contemporary Childhood

In "Parenting and Family Relations" the topics include:

Abandonment
Anger and Aggression
Child-Rearing Advice Literature
Discipline
Family Patterns
Fear
Guilt and Shame
Incest
Orphanages
Parenting
Spock, Benjamin (1903–1998)
Toilet Training
Watson, John B. (1878–1958)
Wet-Nursing

In "Child Advocacy, Protection, and Politics" the topics include:

Child Abuse
Child Labor in the West
Child Pornography
Child Prostitution
Children's Rights
UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
UNICEF
Violence Against Children

Paula Fass has authored many journal articles, chapters and books on childhood issues, including Inheriting the Holocaust: A Second-Generation Memoir.... which would have been of interest to Alice Miller. I am currently reading A History of Childhood: Children and Childhood in the West from Medieval to Modern Times by Colin Heywood, a professor of history at the University of Nottingham in England.
