Today in an interesting letter-to-the-editor in the Swedish newspaper Göteborg Posten, a former children's nurse tells some compelling facts about cutting the umbilical cord within seconds after birth. She writes: "Despite the guidelines of both WHO and the Swedish guidelines that recommend a late cutting of the the umbilical cord, child delivery clinics have as a standard procedure to cut off the cord within seconds." She writes: "This is not a self-evident procedure. One of the first doctors who realized the insanity in this and who tried in vain to put a stop to it was Erasmus Darwin, the grandfather of Charles Darwin. With a premature cut, 50 percent of the child's blood stays in the placenta. According to mother's nature plan, the umbilical cord is supposed to take care of the child with oxygen during the first 3 to 5 minutes after birth, while the remaining blood from the placenta pulsates to the child, at the same time when the lunges are ready to take over the breathing. In this blood there are stem cells and other important protection against diseases. For example dopamine producing cells, something people diagnosed with ADHD are missing. Is this possibly an explanation that ADHD, autism and such, are increasing tremendously, since the "umbilical cord blood" (blood from the placenta and the umbilical cord) is so sought after within the field of stem cell research, that the umbilical cord is cut off sooner than before? According to the Health and Care statutes, a parent has the right to get information and the right to demand a late umbilical cord removal, even in the hospitals where this isn't common. But despite that, they don't inform the parents about it."

It's very rare that anything is being written in the main media about the misconduct and cruelty in child birth. You have to severely lack some empathy to not recognize the enormous fragility of a newborn child.
